The Position

As Senior Bioprocess Engineer you will lead and manage research and development activities to successfully scale fermentation and downstream processing of recombinant proteins. In this position, your main role will be in the development of the fermentation process from the laboratory through pilot plant into commercial facilities. You will play a key role in strategic partner relationships for each of these scales. Your responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic and tactical direction in both upstream and downstream process development for our fermentation process
  • Design experiments to validate process conditions and process unit operations from the laboratory to pilot and commercial scale
  • Plan and execute fermentation trials at lab and pilot scale with the support of technicians
  • Identify, develop and implement novel technologies required to increase yield, robustness and stability of our process
  • Collaborate with internal departments and manage external relationships with strategic partners and commercial-scale contract manufacturers
  • Technology transfer to contract development and manufacturing partners

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or similar relevant area
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant area of work. Technical knowledge or expertise in development, implementation and optimization of fermentation processes strongly preferred
  • Experience in defining pilot and industrial settings for recombinant protein production systems is preferred
  • Experience with different organisms a plus (yeast, filamentous fungi, bacteria etc.)
  • Passionate about food, health, nutrition and sustainability
  • Drive in an entrepreneurial setting, eager to collaborate across functions and backgrounds
  • Fluent in English, German a plus
